Microphor started in 1956 and devoted its efforts to research and development with minimal sales activity. By 1969, the company had moved to expanded facilities and became a multi-faceted manufacturing operation with sales tripling dramatically in the following three years.
As Microphor began to grow, operations were separated into four market divisions to better serve an expanding customer base: Railroad, Marine, Commercial Plumbing and Custom Manufacturing Divisions.
Today, Microphor is a vertically integrated company with worldwide sales and 85 employees. We have 70,000 square feet of manufacturing facilities situated on a rural seventeen acre site located 150 miles north of San Francisco. In addition to our corporate office in Willits, we have sales offices in Chicago and Los Angeles. We have established licensed manufacturing in Japan, Germany and Holland.
Railroad Products Division
Our patented product, the Microphor Sewage Treatment System, utilizes redwood bark as a filtration medium. Treatment systems are sold with ultra low water use Microflush Toilets for commuter car, crew car and locomotive applications. In 1970, Microphor began supplying these systems to the railroad industry and now over 75 rail networks use these systems, including Amtrak, NJT, CSX, EMD, British Rail, Spoornet in So. Africa, and Indian Railways.
In 1980, we further developed a Macerator Toilet/Waste Retention system utilizing only 23 ounces of water per flush. These systems are installed on Amtrak Horizon and Amfleet II cars, Metro North, North Carolina DOT and Caltrans commuter cars. We have since expanded our rail products line with the development of Micro-Cool Thermoelectric Refrigerators (which eliminate moving parts and harmful coolants used by conventional systems), Ditch-Master Ditchlights, Micro-Manifold Piping Manifolds; water tanks and a number of custom manufactured components. In 1999, we developed our one quart stainless toilet and our LF-810/LF-820 series 16 oz. flush stainless toilets.
Marine Products Division
Recognizing a need for treatment systems on marine vessels, Microphor began marketing two quart toilets and waste treatment systems to the marine industry.
Today, Microphor enjoys an international reputation as a leading supplier of Microflush Marine Heads on many of the world's largest luxury yachts. Microphor Marine Sanitation Devices are in use worldwide on both pleasure and commercial vessels. Approximately 450 commercial fleet customers have purchased these systems ranging in size from 1-person to 100-person units that are installed on tugboats, tankers, freighters, workboats, fishing vessels, and oil platforms. Other marine products include sump/pumps, oily-water separators and oil content monitors.
Commercial Products Division
Microphor manufactures the only patented two quart flush toilet in the world, offering a 60% water saving compared to current water saving toilets which use 1.6 gallons of water per flush. The Microflush line of toilets are found in extremely high-use areas such as roadside rests in twenty states, McDonald's restaurants, several national parks, as well as in office buildings and homes. They are extremely quiet and offer a modern one-piece design in a selection of colors. We also offer Slow Closing Faucets and Low Flow Shower Heads to various markets.
Recreational Vehicle and Bus Division
In 1988, we successfully introduced a 12 volt DC version of our Microflush Toilet which has become standard equipment for a number of high-end recreational vehicle and tour bus manufacturers worldwide. In 2000 Microphor developed a 12/24 volt D.C. recirculating toilet targeting the tour bus market.
Export Sales
We have established licensed manufacturing in Japan, Germany and Holland. With an international network of manufacturer's representatives and distributors, we now have customers on six continents: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.
Custom Manufacturing Division
In 1983, Microphor established a Custom Manufactured Products Division, offering to other manufacturers our skills and capabilities in plastic injection molding, CNC and conventional turning and milling, and light to heavy sheet metal fabrication. Since then, this Division has grown to represent a significant segment of total sales, while greatly expanding our customer base.
We also manufacture turn-key facilities, such as Clinical Workspace Units for the Navy's Mobile Hospitals Force Provider Program, which saw harsh duty in Kuwait during the Desert Storm conflict, and Field Deployable Latrines for the U.S. Army which are in service in Bosnia with high commendation.
We utilize CAD/CAM technology in the design and manufacture of products. We have proudly achieved "Certified Supplier Award", "Certified Quality Vendor" and "Zero Defect Ratings" from our customers for both quality and on-time delivery, reflecting our commitment to meet our customer's standards.
